GENERAL QUESTIONS

Q: What is Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS)?

A: Battery-as-a-Service is a financing model where ReVolta invests in, installs, and manages a battery system at your facility for 15 years. You pay €0 upfront and immediately start receiving cash payments from the value the battery generates (energy savings + grid services revenue). At the end of 15 years, you've received approximately 50% of all value created—without ever investing a single euro.

Q: How is this different from buying a battery outright?

A: Buying a battery requires €70,000-300,000+ upfront investment with uncertain 6-8 year payback periods. You also assume all technical risk (performance, degradation, obsolescence) and need in-house expertise to operate and optimize it. With BaaS, you get immediate positive cash flow, zero technical risk, and professional 24/7 management—all with €0 invested.

Q: Does my site qualify for this offer?

A: To make a profitable Battery-as-a-Service offer, ReVolta needs a certain bandwidth in the site's grid connection to offer grid services. In the beginning of the process, ReVolta will perform a study to see if your site qualifies for such an offer.

Q: What if it doesn't? Does it still make sense to install a battery?

A: Yes it does. Installing a battery at a grid-constrained site allows you to accelerate your electrification projects. Grid connection extension often takes from 1-4 years by the grid operator. Installing a battery allows you to bypass the need to extend your connection, while allowing you to save 10-20% on your energy contract from storing excess solar, reducing peaks, exploiting dynamic tariffs. In those cases, ReVolta will propose you a flexible leasing scheme to facilitate your battery project while maximizing your returns.

Q: What's the minimum contract duration?

A: 15 years. This long partnership allows us to finance the battery while keeping your payments low and ensures you receive maximum value over the battery's full operational life.

Q: Can I end the contract early?

A: Yes, through early buyout. You can purchase the battery at any point during the 15 years at a price calculated prior to starting the contract. For example, a Year 5 buyout on a 700 kW system would cost approximately €220,000 (vs. €250,000 market value).

Q: Who owns the battery during the 15 years?

A: ReVolta owns the battery and assumes all ownership responsibilities (insurance, maintenance, technical risk, regulatory compliance). You have exclusive usage rights under the Energy Performance Contract.

Q: What happens after 15 years?

A: Three options: (1) Purchase the battery at residual value (typically €5,000-15,000), (2) Extend the partnership with ReVolta at reduced service fees (€150-300/month), or (3) ReVolta removes the battery at no cost to you.

FINANCIAL QUESTIONS

Q: How much do I pay each month?

A: It depends on the formula you choose and the findings of ReVolta's feasibility study. If the study done by ReVolta confirms potential to offer grid services with your battery, you don't pay ReVolta—ReVolta pays YOU. The battery generates value from two sources (energy contract savings + grid services revenue). We share this value with you based on a transparent, graduated model. In years 1-6, you typically receive 15-25% of value created. In years 7-15, you receive 50% of all value. If the study does not confirm the potential to offer grid services, ReVolta will propose you a flexible formula to maximize your benefit while preserving your cash-flow.

Q: What's a typical annual payment I would receive?

A: Payment schedules and amounts are calculated by ReVolta during the feasibility study and agreed upon in the Energy Performance Contract. They will depend on your energy profile, available bandwidth in your connection and battery size.

Q: What if I don't have much energy data or don't understand my energy bills?

A: No problem. Send us 12 months of energy bills and we'll analyze everything. Our technical assessment (free, no obligation) shows exactly what value a battery would create for your specific situation.

Q: How is value sharing calculated?

A: We use a graduated model that prioritizes battery payback first, then equal partnership:

- Years 1-6: You receive 15-25% of value created (ReVolta uses majority to cover battery financing)

- Years 7-15: You receive 50% of all value created (true equal partnership)

- This results in approximately 50/50 overall split across 15 years.

Q: What if grid service prices (aFRR/FCR) drop significantly?

A: ReVolta assumes all market price risk. Your energy performance contract guarantees minimum value to you. We've built conservative 5% annual price decline assumptions into our models and diversified across multiple revenue streams (aFRR, FCR, mFRR, energy optimization).

Q: Is there a minimum value guarantee?

A: Yes. The energy performance contract includes a floor that ensures minimum value creation to you even in worst-case scenarios. The exact floor is determined during technical assessment based on your specific energy profile.

TECHNICAL QUESTIONS

Q: What size battery do I need?

A: We determine optimal size during technical assessment based on: (1) Your grid connection capacity, (2) Your consumption patterns and peaks, (3) Available space, (4) Your growth plans. Typical range for SMEs: 100-700 kW. Industrial sites: 500-1,500 kW.

Q: How much space does a battery require?

A: Approximately 20-30 m² for a 200-700 kW system. The battery is housed in a weatherproof outdoor enclosure (similar size to a small shipping container). We assess exact space requirements during feasibility study.

Q: What are the minimum requirements for my facility?

A: Grid connection: 200+ kW (100+ kW possible but less economically attractive).

Grid connection utilization: 50-90% of capacity (if you're at 95-100%, different solution needed)

   Monthly energy costs: €2,000+

   Available space: 20-30 m²

Stable business (not bankrupt, not relocating in next 2 years)

Q: Does the battery work with my existing solar panels?

A: Yes. The battery seamlessly integrates with existing or planned solar installations. In fact, solar + battery is one of our strongest use cases—the battery maximizes your solar self-consumption and helps you avoid unfavorable injection prices.

Q: Can the battery provide backup power during outages?

A: Yes, but this requires additional hardware (automatic transfer switch, islanding capability). Backup functionality is sized and priced separately. Standard BaaS model does NOT include backup by default.

Q: What brands of batteries do you use?

A: We use tested and tried manufacturers that have proven their reliability in projects all over Europe. All come with 10-year manufacturer warranties and are proven in thousands of commercial installations worldwide.

Q: How long do the batteries last?

A: 15-20 years. All batteries come with 10-year manufacturer warranties guaranteeing 70%+ capacity retention. In practice, modern lithium batteries often exceed 15-20 years of useful life with proper management (which ReVolta provides).

Q: What happens if the battery fails or performance degrades?

A: ReVolta assumes all technical risk. If the battery fails, we repair or replace it at our cost. If performance degrades below contract terms, we make you whole financially. You never pay for technical issues.

Q: Do I need any technical expertise on my team?

A: Zero. ReVolta handles 100% of technical management: optimization algorithms, trading strategies, grid service bidding, maintenance scheduling, performance monitoring, regulatory compliance. Your involvement is limited to: provide energy bills, allow access for installation and maintenance.

Q: How long does installation take?

A: 8-12 weeks from contract signing to go-live. This includes permitting (2-3 weeks), physical installation (1-2 weeks), grid connection and commissioning (1-2 weeks). Timeline varies based on local utility processes.

Q: Will the battery disrupt my operations during installation?

A: Minimal disruption. Installation typically requires 2-3 days of on-site work, mostly outside your building. You may experience a brief planned outage (1-4 hours) for electrical connection, which we schedule at your convenience.

VALUE CREATION QUESTIONS

Q: How does the battery generate value?

A: Two main sources:

1. Energy Contract Savings (30-40% of value): Peak shaving reduces capacity charges, demand optimization reduces energy block overages, shifting consumption to cheaper hours reduces costs, solar self-consumption avoids injection at unfavorable prices.

2. Grid Services Revenue (60-70% of value): Battery participates in frequency regulation markets (aFRR, FCR, mFRRμ imbalance price) where grid operators pay for fast-responding power reserves. ReVolta's AI-driven platform optimizes across these markets 24/7.

Q: What if my energy consumption is very predictable and I don't have peaks?

A: Perfect! Predictable consumption is actually easier to optimize. Even without dramatic peaks, the battery generates substantial value from: (1) Grid services revenue (the battery earns money even when you're not using it), (2) Energy block optimization, (3) Demand charge reductions. However, customers with visible peaks and volatility typically see the highest returns.

Q: Can the battery help me defer a grid connection upgrade?

A: Yes—this is one of our strongest use cases. If you're operating at 80-90% of your grid connection capacity and need more (for solar, EV chargers, or production expansion), a battery provides "virtual capacity" during peak periods. This avoids €30,000-100,000 grid upgrade costs and eliminates 12-18 month wait times.

Q: Will the battery reduce my carbon footprint?

A: Yes, significantly. By optimizing when you consume grid electricity (shifting to hours with more renewable generation) and enabling more solar self-consumption, batteries reduce CO₂ emissions by 20-40%. We can provide annual carbon reporting for your ESG tracking.

Q: How quickly do I start seeing financial benefits?

A: Immediately upon commissioning. First month after go-live, you'll see reduced energy bills (peak shaving, demand optimization). Then, your battery will need to be certified by RTE or Elia to provide grid services, which may take up to two to three months. Within 30 days after successful certification tests, you receive your first cash payment from grid services revenue. Value compounds monthly for 15 years.

PROCESS QUESTIONS

Q: What's the process to get started?

A: Five steps:

1. Initial contact (you → ReVolta): Share basic info (energy bills, grid connection size)

2. Technical assessment (1-2 weeks): ReVolta analyzes data and remotely assesses your site

3. Proposal (3-5 days): ReVolta presents detailed 15-year projections

4. Contract (1-4 weeks): You review and sign Energy Performance Contract

5. Installation (4-8 weeks): ReVolta handles everything, you start receiving payments

Total time: 8-14 weeks from first contact to cash-generating system.

Q: What information do I need to provide?

A: For initial assessment: 12 months of energy bills (PDF or Excel), 10 or 15-min measurement extract from your smart meter (if available), approximate grid connection size (if known), your industry/business type. That's it. We extract everything else we need from the bills.

Q: Is the technical assessment free?

A: Yes, completely free with no obligation. We perform full analysis (worth €5,000-10,000) at our cost because we're confident in the value we can create. If we determine a battery isn't economically viable for your site, we'll tell you honestly.

Q: How long am I locked into the proposal price?

A: Proposals are typically valid for 30 days. If market conditions change significantly (e.g., grid service prices drop 20%+), we may need to update projections, but you're not obligated to proceed.

Q: What happens if my business circumstances change (relocation, bankruptcy, sale)?

A: The Energy Performance Contract includes standard provisions for these situations:

- Business sale: Contract transfers to new owner (or you can exercise early buyout)

- Relocation: Early buyout option, or ReVolta removes battery at no cost to you

- Bankruptcy: ReVolta owns and removes battery; you have no further obligations

ReVolta assumes these risks—not you.

MARKET AND REGULATORY QUESTIONS

Q: What if regulations around grid services change?

A: ReVolta monitors regulatory developments continuously and adapts strategies accordingly. Your energy performance contract guarantees minimum value regardless of regulatory changes. We've built buffers and diversification (multiple revenue streams) into our models specifically to handle regulatory risk.

Q: Is this available in my country?

A: Currently operating in France and Belgium, expanding to Netherlands, Germany, and Greece in 2026. If you're in another EU country, contact us—we can likely serve you within 3-6 months.

Q: What's stopping my energy supplier from offering this?

A: Technical complexity. Managing batteries for grid services requires: (1) Advanced AI optimization algorithms (4+ years to develop), (2) Relationships with grid operators and trading partners, (3) Real-time market monitoring and bidding systems, (4) Deep expertise in both energy contracts AND grid services markets. Most energy suppliers lack this specialized capability. ReVolta has spent 10+ years building this expertise across dozens of installations.

Q: Will battery prices drop and make my investment outdated?

A: You have zero investment, so this doesn't affect you. If battery prices drop 30% tomorrow, ReVolta absorbs that risk—not you. You continue receiving the same guaranteed value throughout the 15-year contract.

COMPARISON QUESTIONS

Q: Should I buy a battery myself instead of using BaaS?

A: Consider BaaS if: €70K-300K upfront is difficult to justify, you prefer predictable cash flow over uncertain payback, you lack in-house technical expertise to operate batteries, you want to avoid technology obsolescence risk, you value having professionals optimize 24/7.

Consider buying if: You have excess capital to deploy, you have strong in-house energy management team, you want 100% of value, you can accept 6-8 year payback uncertainty, you're comfortable with technology and market risk.

Most SMEs choose BaaS; larger corporations with treasury resources sometimes buy outright.

Q: What about leasing the battery directly?

A: Leasing partners provide the financing, but don't provide: battery optimization software, grid services market access, energy contract analysis, ongoing 15-year management. With the lease alone, you'd still need to hire someone (or build in-house) to manage the battery. ReVolta provides the complete solution: financing + optimization + operations.

RISK QUESTIONS

Q: What are the main risks to me?

A: Very few:

- Opportunity cost of space (20-30- m² occupied for 15 years)

- Contract commitment (15 years is long, though early buyout is available)

- Counterparty risk (ReVolta stays in business 15 years)

To mitigate counterparty risk: ReVolta collaborates with major partners and has strong balance sheet with diversified revenue.

Q: What if I'm not happy with the value I'm receiving?

A: Your Energy Performance Contract guarantees specific minimum value. If we underdeliver, you can: (1) Request audit of our performance, (2) Renegotiate terms, or (3) Exercise early buyout. We're only successful if you're happy—this is a 15-year partnership, not a one-time transaction.

Q: What if ReVolta goes out of business?

A: Unlikely given our backing and track record, but if it happens: The battery continues operating (it's not internet-dependent for basic function). Our leasing partner (who holds title to the battery as collateral for their financing) would likely find another operator or sell battery to you.
